Opinion: All Video Games Should Have a Difficulty Setting

Video Games shouldn’t always be too easy (because that’s boring unless you’re young) but some games shouldn’t always be too hard. (well.. it’s hard when you suck at it or the game was made too poorly) There should be a way to set a game to the right difficulty that fits your playing the best.. here’s why.

There were many games that made us gamers feel that some of the games we have played in the past were too easy and we really wanted a challenge, but there’s no way of doing that, so we go on forums/blogs and complain that a game was too easy. When we beat a game that we feel is too easy, we feel disappointed, sad, or unsatisfied and don’t bother playing it again. We want a bigger challenge! Though, if you’re a casual gamer you just want something to play that’s relaxing, which you can enjoy the game and not worry about the difficulty. Zelda games are usually easy (except Adventure of Link) and you can just lay down and relax just playing them. Imagine making an easy game much harder, I think we would enjoy it more and try and do the highest difficulty possible when we build up the skills (if we didn’t have them). It would also give some games more of a replay value where a gamer wants to play it again. Also, a game isn’t fully beaten until you beat it at the highest difficulty.

Some Games are really hard (oh quit whining, harder is better, right?) because when we get a hard game, we try to step our skills just just to beat that game and when a game is super tough, we get so frustrated we want to throw that controller at the television or curse a lot (even though that won’t help us beat the game but it’s a great way to let out our anger!). When we do however beat the game, we feel really satisfied that we actually beat it, some may want to cheer about and it gives us self accomplishment. When you actually beat Ghosts ‘n Goblins for the NES, how did you feel? It may have been one of the hardest games of all time but you probably felt so satisfied that you beat it, right?

Now what would be great is if all games came with a difficulty setting where we can choose our skill level of gaming, so we can choose to play it as casual or we can choose it high in difficult.. I know some games have this already but a lot of them don’t which would in my personal opinion make the games that don’t have them better if they came with one. If we suck at gaming, we could just choose easy so we can build up our skills but if we want a great deal of challenge, we’ll be picking the hardest setting there is just so we can put our gaming skills to the test! It all depends on our age and skills to choose the setting that fits us best.

Now when it comes to difficulty settings, what should it have.. Besides being “Easy”, “Normal”, “Hard”, or “Very Hard”, Well, I think the AI should move differently, maybe a bit more health, defense, attack power, change of scenery where things are in the way, or even smarter AI. If they just have the health higher but with the same skills, that’s just boring, They need to mix it up (but sometimes just having smarter AI can change the difficulty). Some games they have gone great in with difficulty settings like Metal Gear: Twin Snakes… I had to put it on easy when I first started that game then I end up changing the difficulty after I beat it since I had more skills.. The AI were a bit more smarter, you had to be more quiet when walking around and change the way you fight or else you’ll be dead… But when you beat it, you feel more satisfied about it…

I think if all games had a difficulty setting there would be one thing less to complain about the game and it may actually be a more decent game to play (if they don’t screw up anything else). Though, I’m sure a lot of gamers will try to choose the highest settings possible for the game just so we can feel the greatest challenge right away but if it’s way too hard for our skills, we’ll lower it to the second hardest setting to see if we can enjoy it but also feel a great depth of challenge.

@Captain_Gamer: That depends on the game, developer, and target audience. Some see Easy mode as a training grounds for harder difficulties. Like anything in games, difficulty modes are what’s made of them. For instance, I beat Gears of War on Casual and it helped me build the skills and mindset I’d need to take two steps into Hardcore.

@Trumeg: Nope. Would Ninja Gaiden be fun if it could be played on Easy? Would Contra? Would Castlevania? I thought not.
I replied saying: Well, I’m talking about like games that are easy as well.. Like Zelda is too easy, Mario, Metroid, and such..
@Trumeg: I think games need to be harder. Games are too easy, make the default difficulty harder, and have easy for casual gamers

@nocturbulous: Yes they should, is good to test yr skills on a higher difficulty setting, especially after unlocking it after a playthrough

Digg users have spoken!

Tons of diggers are spreading around this image on digg and titling it “Kevin Rose, Do the Right Thing!”

Over 30 people have submitted this image and it continues to grow… Do the users have a plan to get the old digg back or a slightly better updated version of the old one or will digg ignore it all? So far no one was banned for this or no word from kevin rose or anyone from digg… Looks like the digg protest have begun!

All this negative impact from the new digg could vastly destroy the site if it hasn’t already but then again, publishers is what all that matters for the new digg and may continue to grow… A lot of diggers already started to leave and moved to reddit.com or other social news sites…

Places to visit in a video Game World

Most of us want to travel to some far away place or maybe just even a few states over just to get away from the stressful life or visit someone or just basically visit a place for his historical value…

Now, how about if it was a place that didn’t exist.. like the gaming world… So many great places to visit that we wish were totally real so we can visit our favorite gaming characters or just visit the great wonders of that world….

If I could, the places I would love to visit are:

Super Mario’s Sunshine

It would be awesome to visit a tropical island just as long as those damn birds stay away from me and not keep throwing me into the air. Loads of tropical fruits and plus, many worlds to jump into.

Hyrule

Hyrule has everything that you need, castles, great open areas, beautiful oceans, and so many activities to do where you’re never bored!

Pokemon World

I’m not much of a fan for the video game but it would probably be one of the best places to visit and plus, you can throw objects at strange looking animals and captured them. They have so many different powers you can use in battle and beat the crap out of the other opponent’s animal for fun and it won’t be considered animal cruelty but.. In our would, it would be animal cruelty! Also, the world of pokemon has everything, beaches, loads of activities, history, hiking, boating, surfing, and much much more!

5 things you should NEVER tweet on Twitter

A lot of people love twitter and follow their favorite people on the web, big networks from tv, friends, family, or people they met online… and twitter is a great way to tell everyone what you are doing or things that happened in the day or even advertise your blog to get more readers…

What are you doing is the whole thing that twitter is built around.. you tell whatever you’re doing at the moment you are doing or say what you done today… You can even post about your blog to get more readers.. You can just tweet all day because you’re always doing something There are some things you should never tweet and these 5 things you should never tweet on twitter!

5. You stole something at work
You just took money out of the cash register but it was a small amount where you won’t get in trouble for if it went missing but when you twitter “Yeah, I just stole $5 from the register but I’m not going to be in trouble for it because was a small amount. I didn’t have money for smokes” You will find yourself out of a job if someone you worked with was following you… It was well worth it though.. just for a pack of cigarettes!

4. You cheated on your partner
“How do I keep a secret from my partner.. I Just slept with her friend.. I suck at lying but I want to make sure I don’t give it a away”
If your partner was following you on twitter and you say that you just done some other girl, you can expect a knocking at your door and once you open it.. your lights will be out before you can even start a sentence…

3. You insult your boss
Some people just don’t realize they have their boss as a follower and if you say something like.. “OMG.. I f***ing hate my job.. I work for an asshole boss who is so fucking retarded and gay.” Well.. you will be out of a job and good luck finding a new one.

2. You tweet that you hacked twitter
This would be one of the most stupidest things you could ever twitter because you’ll find yourself banned, fined, and sent to jail because you hacked them… So, if you ever hack twitter, don’t ever say you did it even though.. they will find you eventually anyways… but there will be one good thing about it… Everyone will know you and tweet about you so.. you’ll be come infamous!

1. You just committed a crime
“I just went into someone’s home today to steal stuff but I didn’t find anything interesting so I just took some food and destroyed their computer which was a mac.
Hey.. I did them a favor by destroying it. mac is crap, they should of used windows”
What is there to say… he did the family a favor by destroying a mac computer.. what was the crime in that? Give him an award or something.

But remember.. be smart, don’t tweet something that could get you in a boatload of trouble….

Riding the bus and the things that go along with it

Oh, the joy of riding the bus.

A lot of people who take a bus know how frustrating it is riding one but those who are lucky to drive a car don’t know what we have to put up with. Here are some things that I have to put up with when taking the bus.

1. A long wait… Depending which bus you take, where you are going, there’s different waiting times you have to wait… so, grab something that will entertain you if you’re impatient or you can just stand there and wait. Some buses come every 20 minutes to ever hour in a half… Now, imagine the bus just passes you and there’s not going to be a bus for a long time.. well.. that’s where you can get really mad… I had a bus that just went right by me and didn’t even stop and I was so pissed. There were times, where I got outside my house and missed the bus and I’ve chased it for an entire block just so I wouldn’t be late for work (yes, I actually can run fast enough to catch it)…

2. Dealing with the other people who ride the bus…. Sometimes it’s easy to deal with people, sometimes it isn’t… If you get on a crowded bus, just hope no one weird or someone who smells sit next to you… Yes, I’ve had some people who smelled really bad sit next to me.. some of them were even drinking and the one woman probably had lice in her hair and plus this woman pisses in her pants on the bus so I clearly stay away from her.

(Btw, before you read, I’m not saying anything bad about them, everyone has their share of problems and things affect them, I’m just saying what it’s like when riding the bus with them.)

Have you ever heard of the movie/book Riding the Bus with my sister? Well.. lets just say, I know the real person… Imagine you’re really tired, you woke up at 5:30 in the morning and taking the 7 o’clock bus and all you want to do is just rest your eyes until you get to work which is about a half an hour drive… Beth comes on the bus and just starts talking loud to the bus drivers, basically, that’s all she does is ride the buses all day and talks to the bus drivers… So, I’m always sitting the back to tone her out but, she just talks so loud, no matter where you sit, you’ll hear her (unless you have headphones on). If you sit in her sit, she’ll just stand up and talk to the driver…

Rosie actually played her very well in the movie.. She actually does act like that…

She’s actually the worst person you have to deal with. There’s other weird people that I’ve seen at the station.. Like… A woman who always listens to headphones and dances, Some woman who always carries a teddy bear everywhere she goes (one time she tried feeding it). One time, there was a woman talking to herself and she was actually answering herself.. When she was talking to herself, she was saying how much she hates monkeys.

3. The worst part about riding the bus is when you have to go shopping… Going to work and back is alright, but trying to go shopping is annoying unless you’re only buying a few items… A lot of people hate shopping so they only shop like ever two weeks or so and if you take the bus, you can’t do that… so, if you have no car, you have to call a taxi.. and taxi service can take longer than riding a bus plus it costs more. With a bus, if you do get a lot but it’s enough to carry, it’s painful to be carrying all those groceries for blocks… imagine carrying 50 pounds for 3 blocks, it feels heavier and heavier as you go.

Online Chat Fail

Girls try to turn me on.. but completely fail...

So, like a bit over 3 years ago, I did something I normally don’t do and go in one of them yahoo chatrooms where you can chat with just random people you don’t know.  I forget what category I went in but that isn’t anything special you need to know about… So, I went in, start chatting and then someone contacts me through IM.

It was a girl (or at least I thought it was) and so we were just chatting and and having a little bit of a conversation.  After like maybe a few minutes of chatting, she was then trying to turn me on and say nice things and tell about herself.  Then she told me that I look sexy and that’s when she totally failed… why you ask?  Well.. after she said that.. I said “How do you know I look sexy if you don’t know what I look like?” After I said that, she said I type sexy…. now I was laughing to myself like.. how the fuck can you type sexy?  Was it my awesome use of grammar that turned her on?  The thing is, I wasn’t even talking in any sexual way, just a normal chat with this person.

Well then, she said.. she doesn’t like chatting here and ask if I could continue chatting with her at her website and she gave me a link to a site which showed a girl (probably wasn’t even her) in a United States flag type of bikini…  I looked around and of course I knew what to expect… because the only way to view was to pay to view and why the heck to I want to pay to chat with a girl…  I told her I rather chat here instead and that’s when the chat ends.

So, in conclusion, know what you are saying before you say it.
